Extraction, Separation, and Identification of Phenolic Compounds in Virgin Olive Oil by HPLC-DAD and HPLC-MS

The aim of this study was to evaluate the recovery of individual phenolic compounds extracted from virgin olive oil (VOO), from different Greek olive varieties. Sufficient recoveries (90%) of all individual phenolic compounds were obtained using methanol as an extraction solvent, acetonitrile for residue solubilization, and two washing steps with hexane. Moreover, in order to elucidate structur...

Phenolic acids and flavonoids of Theobroma cacao L.; separation and identification by paper chromatography.

Previous investigations on the phenolic constituents of Theobroma cacao L. have been largely limited to studies on the polyphenols of the ripe bean (Forsyth, 1952, 1955; Forsyth & Quesnel, 1957), which have been shown to be of major importance in determining the taste characteristics of processed cacao. Studies are now being pursued in this Laboratory on the nature of the factors determining th...

Rapid Separation and Identification of Carbonyl Compounds by HPLC Application

A fast HPLC method for the analysis of DNPH derivatized carbonyls found in air samples is demonstrated. A 1.8-μm StableBond C18 separated a standard of the major 13 DNPH derivatized carbonyls. An air sample was analyzed in under 10 minutes and found to contain several carbonyls.

HPLC Separation of Glucosinolates from Leaves and Seeds of Arabidopsis thaliana and Their Identification Using Thermospray Liquid Chramatography/Mass Spectrometry

Leaf and seed extracts of Arabidopsis thaliana var. Columbia contain a large number of glucosinolates, representing close to 25% of those known to occur in nature. The glucosinolates, in the form of their desulphated analogs, are separated by reversed-phase, high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). Seventeen are identified using thermospray liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry (TSP LC/...
